Mongolia Trail Running Project
A 5m Airtight Inflatable Arch for Start and Finish
5m Airtight Inflatable Arch for Trail Running Start and Finish Lines
For this trail running event in Mongolia, the client needed a clear start and finish point that could be transported easily, set up quickly and used outdoors without taking too much manpower.
The final solution was a 5.0 × 3.2 × 0.6 m airtight inflatable arch.
The arch was used as the main start and finish structure for the race. It gave runners a clear reference point, provided a large area for the event name and sponsor branding, and could be installed without building a heavy frame system.

Why the Client Chose an Airtight Inflatable Arch
For running events, setup time and transport are important.
The arch may need to be moved to parks, mountain areas, temporary roads or other outdoor locations where access is limited. Carrying a large metal structure into these locations can require more people, more transport space and more setup time.
This inflatable arch weighs only around 24 kg before accessories, but once inflated it reaches approximately 5 m wide and 3.2 m high.
That means a relatively small packed product can create a large event structure on site.
The client could transport the arch in a vehicle, carry it to the installation point and complete inflation in approximately 2 minutes with the correct air pump.
For an event organizer, this makes the setup much easier.
One Inflation, No Continuous Blower
This project used an airtight inflatable structure.
Unlike continuous-air inflatables, the arch does not need a blower running throughout the event. After the internal air chamber reaches the required pressure, the valve can be closed and the arch remains inflated.
This has several practical advantages.
There is no need to keep a blower next to the arch during the race. There is also no continuous power cable around the start and finish area, which is useful when the event is held in an outdoor location where electrical access may be limited.
It also reduces blower noise around the starting line.
For this type of running event, the organizer can inflate the arch before participants arrive, secure it properly and then use it throughout the event.
Easy to Carry and Quick to Set Up
The biggest advantage of this arch is the difference between its packed size and its working size.
At only around 24 kg, it is much easier to transport than a rigid 5 m-wide event structure.
Once unpacked, inflation takes around 2 minutes, creating a full-size 5 × 3.2 m start or finish gate.
After the event, the process is reversed. The air is released, the structure is folded and the arch can be packed again for the next race.
For organizers running several events during a season, this means less storage space and easier transportation between locations.
Large Branding Area for the Event
A start and finish arch also needs to be easy to see.
At 3.2 m high, the structure is visible above the runners and spectators. The 5 m opening provides enough width for groups of runners to pass underneath while still leaving large printable surfaces across the top beam and both legs.
For this event, the red arch carried the KHADAT TRAIL 50K event name across the top, while the word FINISH was placed vertically on both sides.
This made the structure easy to recognize in photos and gave the organizer a clear place for event branding.
The same structure can also be printed with sponsor logos, race distance, event dates or other graphics depending on the project.
What the Final Setup Achieved
The finished arch provided the organizer with one product that handled several jobs at the same time.
It created a clear start and finish point, gave runners a visible target, provided a large branded background for event photography and helped define the race area without requiring a permanent structure.
The main figures for this project were:
Size: 5.0 × 3.2 × 0.6 m
Weight: approximately 24 kg
Inflation time: approximately 2 minutes
Structure: airtight inflatable
Continuous blower: not required
Main use: start and finish line for a trail running event
These are simple numbers, but for an outdoor event organizer they directly affect transport, setup time and manpower.
What MX Did in This Project
MX first needed to make sure the arch dimensions were suitable for the race.
The opening had to be wide enough for runners to pass through comfortably, while the overall height needed to make the structure easy to see without making it unnecessarily large and heavy.
We also worked on the placement of the event name and finish graphics so that the main information remained readable from the front and from a distance.
During production, MX followed the artwork confirmation, printing, airtight bladder production, outer cover assembly and inflation testing before shipment.
For an airtight product, checking air retention and overall structure is particularly important because the client expects the arch to remain standing after the pump is disconnected.
The final result was a 24 kg inflatable arch that could be transported easily, inflated in about 2 minutes and expanded into a 5 m-wide race structure on site.
For running races, marathons, trail events and triathlons, this type of arch is a practical option when the organizer needs something large enough to be noticed but still easy to transport and install.

To respect client confidentiality and avoid unauthorized use of client brand assets, original logos and identifying brand elements may be removed or replaced with neutral artwork. These changes are limited to branding only; the product structure, application and project details remain true to the original project.
