For a regional rally project in the Ardennes region of France, a rally team selected three custom 6 × 8 × 3.8m Long Inflatable Tents to create temporary service bays for three rally cars.
Each tent was used for one rally car together with the mechanics and team members working around it.
The three structures were not limited to one fixed layout. They could be positioned side by side when the team needed a larger shared service area, or used separately as the paddock layout changed during the event.

What the Rally Team Needed From the Service Area
A rally service tent is more than a place to park a car.
During a rally event, the service area becomes a temporary workshop where mechanics inspect the vehicle, work around the wheels and bodywork, access tools and parts, and coordinate with other members of the team.
For this project, the client needed a structure that could provide:
- enough usable space for one rally car per tent;
- clear access around the vehicle for mechanics;
- a wide service opening;
- fast setup with minimal manpower;
- flexible positioning inside the paddock; and
- visible team branding.
The customer therefore selected the MX Long Inflatable Tent rather than using the service tent as a purely decorative shelter.
The structure had to work as part of the team workflow.
Why a Long Inflatable Tent Worked for This Rally Team
For this project, the main reasons for choosing an inflatable structure were practical.
Faster Setup With One Person
One person could take one tent from unpacked condition to a basically inflated and raised structure in approximately five minutes.
This reduced the amount of manpower required to prepare the temporary service area.
A Wider Working Opening
The Long Tent configuration provides a broad open side around the service bay.
For mechanics moving around a rally car with tools, wheels and equipment, usable access can be more important than the nominal tent footprint alone.
More Usable Working Space
Each 6 × 8m tent provided enough area for one rally car together with mechanic and team workspace.
The elongated layout also helped the team organize equipment around the vehicle without forcing all activity into a compact square footprint.
Flexible Positioning
The tents could be arranged together or used separately.
At approximately 41 kg per main structure, an individual tent remained manageable enough to reposition when the paddock layout changed.
Branded Service Environment
The roof and removable sidewalls were customized with team graphics.
This allowed the temporary service structure to function as both a working area and a visible branded paddock presence.
For this rally team, that combination was one reason the inflatable tent vs frame tent decision was not based on structure alone. Setup labor, working access, flexibility and branding all mattered.
One 6×8m Service Bay for One Rally Car
There is no single tent size that suits every motorsport team.
The required footprint depends on the dimensions of the vehicle, the clearance needed by mechanics and the amount of equipment used around the car.
In this project, the working arrangement was straightforward:
One 6 × 8 × 3.8m inflatable tent was allocated to one rally car together with its mechanic and team workspace.
That gave the team three separate service bays from three tents.
When required, the tents could be positioned next to each other to create a larger unified working zone.
At other times they could operate independently.
This flexibility is useful in motorsport service areas because cars, tool cabinets, wheels, support vehicles and people do not always remain in the same positions throughout an event.
From a Logo and Simple Idea to a Branded Service Tent
The rally team did not provide a complete production-ready graphic package.
The initial input was a logo together with a simple visual idea.
MX then adapted the branding to the inflatable structure before production.
The main customized areas were:
- the tent roof;
- removable sidewalls.
For a large branded inflatable tent, logo placement needs to be reviewed at full structural scale.
A logo that appears correctly proportioned on a flat artwork page can look too small or incorrectly positioned once printed across an 8m-long structure.
The design stage therefore focused on the relationship between the logo, available printable area and the final inflated shape rather than simply enlarging the supplied artwork.
This follows the same principle used in MX custom inflatable tent design: graphics are reviewed as part of the three-dimensional structure rather than as isolated print panels.
41 kg Main Structure, Packed to Approx. 55 × 55 × 55 cm
Transport and paddock handling are important considerations for an inflatable tent for motorsport.
Each tent in this project had a main-structure net weight of approximately:
41 kg
The approximate packed dimensions were:
55 × 55 × 55 cm
Once deployed, that package created a structure approximately:
6m wide × 8m long × 3.8m high
Rally teams already transport cars, wheels, tools, spares and service equipment between events.
A large temporary structure therefore becomes easier to manage when its packed form occupies comparatively little storage volume.
This also made it practical for the team to move individual tents within the service area when necessary.
Approx. 5-Minute One-Person Inflation
One person could basically inflate and raise one tent in approximately five minutes.
A typical setup sequence for this project was:
- unpack the tent;
- position the structure;
- connect the electric pump;
- inflate the airtight air beams;
- disconnect the pump after inflation;
- position the tent;
- secure it with ground stakes; and
- install sidewalls where required.
The approximately five-minute figure refers to the basic inflation and raising process.
Final positioning, anchoring and sidewall installation require additional time and depend on the site.
This distinction is important when comparing setup times between different types of event structures.
Airtight Structure: No Continuous Blower Required
The three tents used an airtight, or sealed-air, inflatable structure.
Electricity was needed during inflation.
Once the air structure reached its operating pressure, the pump could be disconnected.
The tent did not require a continuously operating blower during use.
For a rally service environment, this had several practical advantages:
- no continuously running blower beside the car;
- fewer electrical cables across the working area;
- less dependence on a permanent nearby power point;
- less operating noise around the service bay.
During this specific two-day project use, no additional inflation was reported.
Weather, Removable Sidewalls and Outdoor Use
The rally weekend took place in the Ardennes region at the end of May 2025.
Public records from the local rally organizer confirm that a regional rally was held in the Rethel area on 30–31 May 2025, with a dedicated service and parc fermé area in Rethel.
This public event information is used only as regional motorsport context. MX is not claiming an official supplier relationship with that specific event.
Historical weather records for Rethel indicate dry conditions on May 30 and light showers on May 31.
The removable sidewalls gave the team flexibility as conditions changed.
During more open conditions, walls could be removed to improve access around the rally car.
When additional weather protection was useful, sidewalls could be fitted.
The waterproof outer fabric also helped provide shelter from light rain around the working area.
The historical weather information above is public regional context, not a measurement taken directly beside the MX tents.
Anchoring and Outdoor Stability
The tents were secured with ground stakes during this installation.
According to the project record, no obvious displacement or significant structural deformation was reported during the two-day use.
No project-specific wind-speed measurement was taken.
For that reason, this field observation should not be interpreted as a certified inflatable tent wind resistance rating.
Outdoor stability depends on the complete installed system, including:
- structure dimensions;
- anchoring method;
- ground conditions;
- sidewall configuration;
- exposure; and
- actual weather conditions.
For sites where stakes cannot be used, a different inflatable tent anchoring solution may be required.

Production and Pre-Shipment Quality Control
The production period for this project was approximately:
15 days from design confirmation to shipment
This is the actual timeline recorded for this order rather than a fixed production promise for every custom tent.
Before packing, the tents went through project-specific QC covering:
- full inflation;
- airtightness;
- finished dimensions;
- logo and print position;
- sewing quality; and
- accessories.
These checks were used to confirm both the structural condition and the approved visual layout before shipment.
For a commercial inflatable tent, both matter.
A structure may inflate correctly but still fail a branded event requirement if the sidewalls do not align, the graphics are positioned incorrectly or the finished dimensions do not match the approved design.
What Happened During the Two-Day Rally Use
According to the project record, the three tents were used across the two-day rally period.
During this specific use:
- no additional inflation was reported;
- no obvious air leakage was reported;
- no obvious displacement was reported; and
- no significant structural deformation was reported.
These are project observations, not laboratory test results or certified performance ratings.

1. Select the Tent From the Car Outward
Do not choose a rally service tent from nominal dimensions alone.
Start with the rally car, then add the clearance needed for mechanics, wheels, tools and team movement.

8. Are inflatable tents safe in wind?
Inflatable tents can be used outdoors when they are correctly installed and appropriately anchored, but no single wind-safety limit applies to every inflatable tent.
Safety depends on the exact structure, anchoring system, ground condition, sidewalls, exposure and weather.
This project used ground stakes and no obvious displacement was reported, but no project-specific wind-speed measurement was taken.
